先日、フランスよりお越しのドクターが、日本人のマスク姿を不思議に思われたようでした。私も外出するときには必ずマスクを使っています。自分が花粉やホコリを吸いこまないためと、前触れなく出てしまうクシャミで周囲に迷惑をかけないためです。でも、せっかく暖かくなってきたというのに、確かにあまりファッショナブルではないかもしれません。

A French doctor thought it was strange that so many Japanese
people were wearing masks when he came to Japan the other day. I always wear a
mask when I go outside. It is for myself not to inhale pollen and dust. It is also
for other people to not be bothered by my unpredictable sneezing. I still understand
his viewpoint though; it is true that wearing masks does not look very
fashionable especially in this warming season.
By the way, Japanese “achoo” is pronounced as “hakushon” and
I thought it rhymes with “fashion.”
