カンボジアへ

エリックのカンファレンス出席の機会を利用して、私もカンボジアに行くことにしました。もちろん世界遺産を見ることも楽しみだけれど、発展途上中の国のエネルギーを感じてきたいと思います。一足早く出かけたエリックは、現在ソウル観光を楽しんでおり、土曜日にプノンペンで合流する予定です。 

To Cambodia

I decided to go to Cambodia to use the opportunity of Eric’s conference. Of course, I am looking forward to seeing World Heritage sites, and I am also hoping to feel the energy of this developing country. Eric left home a few days earlier to enjoy Seoul on his own and I will join him in Phnom Penh this Saturday.

レ・ミゼラブル

話題の映画を観ました。20代の頃には、ミュージカルをロンドンと名古屋で観たこともある大好きな作品です。かつては、革命のエネルギーや成就するロマンスにばかり気を取られていましたが、今は人生に対する絶望や報われない恋など、光の当たらない場面のほうに、より共感できます。年齢を重ねたせいでしょうか。 

私が好きな曲は：ファンティーヌの『夢やぶれて』、エポニーヌの『オン・マイ・オウン（独りきり）』、フランス市民の『民衆の歌』です。特にエポニーヌの独唱は、何度聴いても涙が出てしまいます。 

Les Misérables 
I saw this reputable movie. It is one of my favorite stories and I saw the musical in London and Nagoya in my twenties. The energy of the revolution and the happy-end romance used to attract me in the past, but now the shadowed aspects of the story, including the despair of life and unanswered love, make me sympathize more. This may be because I am older.

My favorite songs are: “I Dreamed a Dream” by Fantine, “On My Own” by Éponine and “Do You Hear the People Sing?” by the French citizens.  Especially the solo of Éponine makes me cry every time I hear it.

空気

立春を過ぎ、間もなく私の花粉症も表れ始めることでしょう。今年はスギやヒノキの花粉が例年よりも多いとか。それよりも気になるのは、隣国から流れてくる汚染された空気です。かつての日本も工業都市の大気汚染が問題になりました。一生懸命なうちは周囲に配慮する余裕はないのかもしれませんが、それができてこそ、本当の成長と言えるのではないでしょうか。

Air 
The first day of spring has passed and my hay fever will come out shortly. It is said that we will have more pollen of cedar and cypress this spring than our regular years. What concerns me more is the polluted air from the neighboring country. We used to have air pollution in industrial cities in Japan, too. It may be difficult to think of others when you are working hard, but true development of a country should come with sensitivity.

チーズフォンデュ

我が家で少し遅めの新年会を開きました。今回の料理はチーズフォンデュ。2年前にスイスで食べて以来すっかり気に入り、冬に人が集まるときのメニューとして時々登場させます。パンとチーズだけでは重くなるので、茹で野菜も用意して。ワイワイ話しながら鍋を囲み、楽しいひとときを過ごしました。 

Cheese Fondue
We hosted a belated New Year’s party at our place. We served cheese fondue this time. I have liked this menu since my visit to Switzerland 2 years ago and have served it when we have guests in winter. Cheese and bread cubes could be too heavy so I usually prepare some boiled vegetables, too. We had a great time with fun conversations over one pot.
