フライパン

 
5年以上使っているフライパンが傷んできたので、迷った末にインターネットの口コミで好評だった鉄製のものを購入しました。しばらく使っていますが、なんとなく馴染めません…。道具類との相性は、使ってみないと分からないので難しいです。 

Frying Pan 

A frying pan which I used over 5 years was worn out and I purchased an iron pan, which had a good reputation online, after wavering. I have been using it a while, but it still does not fit in my hand comfortably… It is difficult to choose a tool because we would not know if it is a right one for us before using it.

母なる自然

今週は広島で集中豪雨による大きな被害が発生しました。神戸でもこの夏は雨が多く、近所の川も水かさが増したままです。防災は心がけたいけれど、母なる自然の威力を前に私たちがどれだけ無力かということを思わずにはいられません。 

Mother Nature

There was a big disaster caused by a concentrated downpour in Hiroshima this week. We have had much rain this summer in Kobe, too, and I found our local river swollen for a while. While we keep disaster prevention in our mind, I cannot help feeling how helpless we are in front of the power of Mother Nature.

これから

お盆は碧南で過ごしました。入院中の父のことも、家と病院と畑を行き来する母のことも心配でした。会ってみれば、二人ともそれなりに元気だし、近くに住む親せきが色々と気遣ってくれているようです。でも、これからは私がもっと近くにいるほうが良いのかなと思いました。

For The Future

We spent this Obon period in Hekinan. I was concerned about my father, who has been in hospital, as well as my mother, who has been busy between home, hospital and their vegetable garden. I found out that they were actually doing pretty well and our neighboring relatives have been helping them. But it may be better if we live closer to them for the future.

女性の人権

この週末は台風11号が来ていましたが、映画サークルの前売券を無駄にするまいと、雨が止んだ時間を見計らって出かけました。今月の例会作品は、サウジアラビアを舞台にした『少女は自転車にのって（原題：ワジダ）』でした。 

イスラム圏の国々では、女性の人権が未だ十分に確立されていません。女性は髪や肌や声の露出を制限されているだけでなく、教育や就労を含む日常生活に多くの制約を受けています。読み書きできない女性も少なくありません。結婚に関しては、そもそも自由に伴侶を選ぶことができない上に、一夫多妻制ときています。女性たちは、どれほどの我慢を強いられて生きているのでしょうか？　それとも、自由を知らない彼女たちは、そのような生活を当たり前のこととして受け入れているのでしょうか？ 

この映画の中では、男の子にしか与えられていなかった自転車を、主人公の少女ワジダは最終的に手に入れました。私には何もできないけれど、日本で自転車に乗れる自由に感謝しつつ、イスラム圏での女性の未来を祈りたいと思います。

Women’s Human Rights  

Although typhoon No.11 was here this weekend, I went to a movie during a rain-free period so that I did not have to waste a pre-purchased ticket for the movie club. The film of the month was “Wajida,” a story set in Saudi Arabia. 

Women’s human rights are not yet well-established in Islamic countries. Women are not only restricted from exposing their hair, skin and voice, but also constricted in their daily life including education and employment. Illiteracy is not uncommon among women. As for marriage, they have no right to choose their spouses to start with, and polygamy stands in front of them. How much patience should they bear? Or, do they accept such a life style as a part of their fate because they do not know freedom? 

At the end of the movie, Wajida, the heroine girl of the story, managed to obtain a bicycle- something which was granted for boys only. There is not much I could do for the situation, but I wish the best for the future of Islamic women while I appreciate my freedom to enjoy a bicycle in Japan.

ひやり

私は普段、片道10分ほどの自転車通勤をしています。今日の帰り道は、3度も危ない目に遭いました。減速しないまま交差点に進入してきたミニバンと、一時停止の止まり方が甘くて、横から突っ込んできそうになった宅急便のトラックと白いセダンには、ひやりとさせられました。みんな暑くてイライラしているのでしょうか？

Chills 
My commute is usually 10 minutes or so by bicycle.  I came across a dangerous situation 3 times on my way home today. I got chilled from my experiences; a minivan came into an intersection without reducing its speed, then a small delivery truck and a white sedan did not stop thoroughly at stop-signs and they almost drove into my side. Are drivers annoyed because of the summer heat, maybe?
