資格更新

15年ほど前に取得したインテリアコーディネーターの資格更新を済ませました。お金を払ってまで資格更新したのは、いつかまた業界に復帰したいという思いがあるからでしょうか。新しいことを学ぶ気持ちも大切ですが、今ある資格や能力も保ち続けたいと思います。

License Renewal 

I have renewed my interior coordinator license which I obtained about 15 years ago. Maybe I still have a little ambition of coming back into the business and that made me spend some money for the renewal.  It is important to have an attitude of learning new things, but it is also important to maintain existing licenses and abilities.

朝焼け

この季節はまだ日の出が遅いので、朝焼けを見る機会があります。ピンク色の雲を見て思い出すのは、バッファローの老人ホームに勤めていた頃のこと。朝食の配膳に間に合うように出勤すると、車の窓からきれいな朝焼けが見えたものでした。同じ太陽、同じ自分のはずなのに、ずい分違って見えるものです。 

Morning Glow

Since the sun rise is still late in this season, I occasionally have a chance to see morning glow. Pink clouds remind me of the time I worked at a retirement residence in Buffalo. I used to see beautiful morning glow on my way to work for breakfast service. Things feel pretty different although this is the same sun and I am the same person.

知りたい

ここのところ仕事が忙しくて図書館に行く時間がなかったので、代わりにインターネットでDVDを注文し、週末に自宅で『マンデラの名もなき看守』を観ました。この映画には、とても難しい状況におけるマンデラ氏と看守との温かい触れ合いが描かれています。その中にも「赦し」の場面があり、どうしたらそうできるのか、私の知りたい気持ちはますます強まりました。 

Curiosity

I ordered a DVD online since my job had been keeping me busy and I did not have time to visit the library recently. I watched “Goodbye Bafana” at home this past weekend. It is a movie in which a warm relationship between Mr. Mandela and his prison guard in a very difficult situation was described. I noticed a scene where he showed his “absolution” and it drove my curiosity even more to know how he was able to do so.

ソウルフード

寒い日が続くと、食べたくなるのが味噌煮込うどんです。お正月に帰省したときに愛知で買ったうどんを作り、今回は少し豪華に牡蛎を入れていただきました。硬めの麺と濃いスープで、心も身体も芯から温まりました。 

Soul food 

Cold days make me have an urge for noodle stew with miso paste. I cooked Udon noodles, which I purchased in Aichi at the New Year, with some oysters to make it a little fancier this time. These somewhat hard noodles and the thick soup made my body and soul warm from inside out.

わたしの秘密

神戸に来て約4年。毎年のように冬の寒さが厳しくなっているように感じています。この季節の自転車での通勤や買い物は辛いときもあるけれど、もし車があったら運動しなくなってしまうので、これはこれで良いのかもしれません。外出するときには、帽子とマスクと手袋と…、大きい声では言えませんが、腹巻を着けて靴下も重ね履きしています。

My Secret 

I have lived in Kobe for almost 4 years and winter here feels colder every year. It is sometimes tough to use a bicycle for commuting and shopping in this season, but it is okay. I may not move enough if I had a car. When going out, I wear a hat, a mask, gloves… and a belly-warmer and double socks although I cannot say it in a loud voice.

お餅

お正月はいつも通り碧南で過ごしました。帰省中の一番の楽しみはお餅作りです。子どもの頃は祖父母のところの庭先で石臼と木槌を使って作ったものですが、今は屋内で電気餅つき機を使って。鏡餅は硬くなってしまう前にと昨夜小分けし、今日のお昼にいただきました。でも、調べてみたら、伝統的な鏡開きはあと1週間ほど先の行事だそうです。 

Rice-cake 

We spent the New Year’s Day in Hekinan as we usually do. My favourite event during the stay was making rice-cakes. We used to do it with a heavy stone bowl and a large wooden hammer in the garden at my grandparents’, but now we use an electric rice-cake maker inside the house. I cut Kagamimochi (a round rice-cake especially made for the New Year) into pieces before it hardened last night and we enjoyed them for lunch today. When I looked up more information about Kagamimochi, however, it is traditionally supposed to be broken into pieces a week later.
