ありがとう。

昨日は最後の出勤を済ませ、今日はエリックの職場に挨拶に行き、明日はいよいよ引越しです。神戸生活の思い出は色々ありますが、中でも特筆すべきは…。 

＊住吉川：2年半続けたウォーキングは、自分と向き合える貴重な時間でした。以前より身体の調子も良くなりました。 
＊パン屋さん：DONQ、トミーズ、フロイン堂、イスズベーカリー、マル井パン…。沢山お世話になりました。 
＊古い友と新しい友：学生時代からの付き合いや仕事を通して知り合った皆さんの存在は、いつも私の心の支えでした。 

『小さな主婦の神戸生活』は、今日で終わります。また、碧南での生活も紹介したいと思いますが、まだ決めていません。これまで読んでくださった皆さん、ありがとうございました。

Thank You
I finished working yesterday, made a farewell visit to Eric’s school today and we are moving out tomorrow. I made a lot of memories in my Kobe life, but here are some special memories…

*Sumiyoshi River: I walked along the bank for 2 and a half years and it was a precious time to reflect on myself. As a result, I physically feel better, too.
*Bakeries: DONQ, Tommy’s, Froindo, Isuzu Bakery, Marui Pan… We enjoyed your baked goods a lot.
*Old and new friends: Those whom I have known since our school days and those whom I met through work- you always supported my spirit.

So, this is the last post of “Mari’s Kobe Life.” I hope to introduce my new life in Hekinan, but I have not decided yet. I would like to say thank you for everybody who took your time to read my blog.

あと少し

引越しの段ボール箱に囲まれた生活は窮屈です。確定申告や転出届などの大事な書類が、どこかに埋もれてしまいそうで怖いです。なんとなく胃の調子も悪いけれど、あと少しだけ頑張らなくては…。

Just a Bit More 

It feels tight to live among cardboard boxes for moving. I am afraid if important documents such as tax report and notification of relocation could be buried somewhere hard to find. I need to keep going just a bit more although my stomach started to ache…

通天閣

月末の引越しを控え、家では荷造り会社では引き継ぎに追われていますが、それだけでは心が疲れてきます。昨日は初めて通天閣に行ってきました。ついでに鶴橋で美味しい焼肉を食べてきました。鶴橋在住の同僚一家と一緒に行ったお店は、とても良かったです。

Tsutenkaku 

 To be ready for our move later this month, I have been packing at home and training a new girl at work. I needed something different for a change. We visited Tsutenkaku for the first time yesterday and also went to Tsuruhashi for good Korean-style barbeque. The restaurant, where we enjoyed dinner with my co-worker and her family, was very good.

最期

このところの世界には悲しいニュースが多くなっています。人は生まれるとき、時も場所も両親も選べないけれど、亡くなり方は自分の意思で変えられる部分もあるのではないかと思っていました。自ら危険な地域に赴き命を落とされたジャーナリストの後藤さんは、ご自身の最期をどう受けとめられたのでしょうか…。 

The Final Moment

There is so much sad news in this world these days. I know that nobody can choose a time, a place and parents to be born to, but I have believed that people could take some control over the way they die. I wonder how Mr. Goto, the journalist who was killed by terrorists after visiting the dangerous area with his own will, accepted his final moment.

神戸の休日

今日は愛知県から知人グループが遊びに来てくださいました。10年以上も前にエリックから英会話を習っていた皆さんは、気さくで良い方ばかりです。一緒に美味しい料理をいただいたり、おしゃべりしながら街歩きしたり、とても楽しい時間を過ごしました。 

 

今日の主な行き先：神戸北野ホテル（ランチ）、南京町（散策）、ポートタワー（観光） 

Kobe Holiday 

A group of our acquaintances visited us from Aichi today. They are all nice and friendly people who learned English with Eric over 10 years ago. We had a very enjoyable time together, ate delicious food and strolled around the city over conversations. 

Major places we visited today: Kobe Kitano Hotel (for lunch), Chinatown (for strolling) and Kobe Port Tower (for sightseeing)

研修医

今月は仕事でアメリカから若い研修医をお迎えしました。私が初めて通訳を務めた出張で当時学生だった彼女と出会って以来、4年ぶりの再会です。仕事はもちろん真剣に。食事やおしゃべりは楽しく。今はつぼみのような彼女も、数年の内に優秀なドクターになられることでしょう。

Doctor in Training  

We had a young American doctor-in-training at work earlier this month. 4 years had passed since we first met in the States when she was a student and I was a beginner interpreter. We worked hard and enjoyed dining and chatting as well. I am sure that this budding doctor today will be a competent doctor in a few years.

JICA関西食堂

以前から一度行ってみたかったJICA関西食堂に今日初めて行きました。今月の月替りメニューは「被災地を忘れない」というテーマで、過去何年かの間に自然災害を受けた地域の料理を組み合わせた定食になっていました。なかなか面白かったです。 

＊1月のメニュー：野菜ポトフ（チリ）、ガドガドサラダ（インドネシア）、鶏料理（フィリピン）、そば飯（神戸）、かぼちゃのデザート（トルコ）…全部で720円！ 

Café at JICA Kansai 

I went to the café at JICA Kansai, which I had been interested in, for the first time today. The menu of this month, with a theme of “not-to-forget disaster areas,” was a combination of local foods from different places hit by natural disasters in the past few decades. It was pretty interesting. 

*Menu of January: vegetable pot-au-feu (Chile), gadogado salad (Indonesia), marinated chicken (Philippines), rice and buckwheat noodle (Kobe) and pumpkin dessert (Turkey)… all for 720 JPY!

20年

阪神・淡路大震災から明日で20年です。

1995年1月17日、私は当時勤めていた名古屋の会社で催事を手伝うために、たまたま早起きしていました。朝食を終えた頃に揺れ（名古屋で震度4）を感じ、母と一緒にテーブルの下にもぐり込みました。催事の会場では、関西から来名していた人が、普及し始めたばかりの携帯電話で、ご家族に連絡を取ろうとされていた姿を覚えています。

4年前に震災のあった東北も、まだまだ復旧が進まないと聞きます。当事者でない私たちがこのことを日常的に思い続けるのは、正直なところ難しいものです。今年こそは一度東北に行ってみるべきなのかもしれません。 


20 Years

It will have been 20 years tomorrow since the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.

On January 17^th, 1995, I happened to be up early in the morning to help out an event of my company of that time in Nagoya. I felt the quake (intensity 4 in the area) after breakfast and my mother and myself slipped under a table. I remember that some gentleman from Western Japan was trying to reach his family with his mobile, which was just wide-spreading in the market, at the event venue.

I hear that the rehabilitation from the damage of the Great East Japan Earthquake is still on the way after almost 4 years. To be honest, it is difficult for us to keep thinking for them without actually being involved. Maybe I should visit Tohoku myself this year.

御影高杉

神戸で暮らす楽しみのひとつは、私の場合、美味しい洋菓子です。東灘区に数ある有名店の中でも、特に素晴らしいのが「御影高杉」さん。遠方の家族や友だちには焼き菓子しか贈ることができないのは残念です。先日は神戸らしい上品なお友だちと一緒に、サロンでしか味わえないミルフィーユを楽しんできました。あと何回行けるかしら…。 

Mikage Takasugi 

One of many ways to enjoy living in Kobe, in my case, is to eat delicious cakes. “Mikage Takasugi” is an outstanding patisserie among many famous competitors in the Higashinada district. It is a pity that I can only send gifts of baked goods for my family and friends in the distance. I enjoyed mille-feuille, which is available exclusively at their salon, with my friend who is a typical elegant Kobe lady. I wonder how many more times I can visit this place…

願わくは

 

今回は寒いお正月です。碧南でも元日の夜から雪が降りました。今年はプライベートで大きな変化を控えていますが、どんな一年になるでしょうか。願わくは、心穏やかに身体健やかに過ごせますように。

This is a cold New Year. We even had some snow in Hekinan from the evening of the New Year’s Day. I wonder what this year will be with all possible changes in our private life. May we live with our minds in peace and our bodies in good health.
