消費増税法案

率直に言うと、一国民として私は賛成です。もちろん自分が払う税金は少ないほうが良いけれど、震災や原発事故の影響を受けて困っている人々の救済に当てる財源がないのだから、仕方ありません。諸国の税金制度を参考にしながら、例えば食料品や医薬品等は非課税にしてもらえると助かるのですが…。

Frankly, I agree with the bill as a citizen. Of course, I will not enjoy paying more taxes myself, but there are not enough treasury resources to compensate people who were affected by the disaster of 3.11 and the Fukushima nuclear plant situation. It would be helpful if food and medicines were tax-exempted. I believe such a tax system could be adopted from other countries…

サンディエゴ

出張の最終目的地はカリフォルニア州サンディエゴ。私たちの滞在中は神戸より気温も湿度も低く、カラッと気持ちの良い晴れの天気が続いていました。仕事で私もかなり疲れていましたが、青空を飛ぶハングライダーを見たときには、思いがけず歓声を上げました。

San Diego
Our final destination of the trip was San Diego, California. We had crispy sunny days with cooler and drier air than in Kobe throughout our stay there. Although I was getting tired from my work, I squealed for joy when I saw some hang-gliders in the blue sky.

リッチモンド

出張中に2日間お休みをもらいました。久しぶりにバッファローにも寄りたかったのですが、今回は義父の従妹リズさんを訪ねてリッチモンドへ。女二人でおしゃべりしながらドーナツを食べて買い物をして…。そして、ゆっくり昼寝をさせてもらいました。

Richmond
I was given a couple of free days during my business tour. I went to visit Liz, Eric’s father’s cousin in Richmond, although it was a tough decision whether or not to visit Buffalo after a while. The two of us went to eat donuts and to shop a bit while we kept talking. Afterwards, I had a good long nap at her home.

シカゴとフィラデルフィア

今回の出張で最初に訪れたのはイリノイ州の大都市シカゴでした。仕事にとりかかる前に、名物の分厚いピザを楽しみました。喉の調子がおかしくなってきて、会談中に咳き込む場面がたびたび…。不安な幕開けとなりました。

次に訪れたのは、ペンシルベニア州のフィラデルフィア。ここでは大学を見学したり、ドクターの話を聞いたり…。いつの間にか咳が出なくなり、喉の不調はシカゴの空気だったのではないかと気付きました。名物のチーズステーキ・サンドイッチを楽しんだことは言うまでもありません。


Chicago and Philadelphia

The first city where my employer and myself visited during this business tour was Chicago, the metropolis of Illinois. We enjoyed a Chicago-style deep-pan pizza before starting business. Then my throat became sore and I could not help coughing during meetings… and so our tour started.

The next city was Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We visited a college and had a lecture from a doctor there. My coughs were gone before knowing it and I realized that it was the air of Chicago which was affecting my throat earlier. Of course, we enjoyed Philly cheese-steak sandwiches, which are the specialty of the city.
