ミズーリ州ファーガソンにおける白人警察官による黒人少年射殺事件を発端とした暴動のニュースが、日本でも連日流されています。アメリカの市民でも住民でもない私にも、アメリカ社会について色々思うところがありました。
まず、法律で銃の使用が禁じられていたら、このような事件は起こりにくかったのではないかという疑問。次に、普段は「問題ない」ことにされている人種差別の問題が、未だ根強く残っていることの再認識。そして、人の感情が爆発するときには、そこに至るまでに、小さな怒りの種のようなものがいくつも芽生えているのではないか、という心理分析など…。
アメリカでは感謝祭も終わり、楽しくクリスマスの準備をしている人も多いことでしょう。問題を抱えながら明るく振る舞うことも良いけれど、一人ひとりがこの問題に真剣に向き合って、もっと良い国にしていってくれることを願います。
Ferguson
In recent days in Japan, we have heard news of riots
provoked by the incident of a young African-American man shot to death by a
white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. I have had a few thoughts about American
society although I am neither a citizen nor a resident of the country at the
moment.
First of all, risks of this kind of incident should have
been a lot less if the use of guns is legally prohibited. Then, I reaffirmed
that the racial problem, which is treated as if there is “no problem” under
usual circumstances, still remains deep-rooted. I also made a psychological
analysis; maybe people have small seeds of anger growing in their minds before
they reach their emotional eruptions...
Thanksgiving is over and now many American people must be getting
ready for Christmas in a happy mood. It is okay to act cheerfully even when
there is a problem, but I hope everybody would take this matter seriously to
make America a better country.
