先週、南アフリカ共和国の元大統領ネルソン・マンデラ氏が亡くなりました。テレビ番組などで彼がどのように活躍されてきたかを知り、今さらながらに「もっと知りたい」と思いました。私が最も惹きつけられるのは、生前の彼の笑顔です。困難の多い人生であったはずなのに、何故あれほど心穏やかな笑顔をできたのでしょうか…。怒りや憎しみの対象になり得る相手さえ赦したという、その生き方を知りたいと思います。
Forgiveness
Mr. Nelson Mandela, the former president of the Republic of South Africa, passed away last week. It may sound a bit too late, but I feel like knowing more about him after learning about his activities on some TV programs. What attract me most are those smiles of his days. How could he smile so peacefully despite all the burdens he had carried…? I want to know how he forgave everybody, even those who could have been the target of anger and hatred, to live his life.
